CHARLOTTE – Danielle Kang’s 4-foot putt on the next-to-last hole in the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Sunday gave her a 2 and 1 match-play victory over Jessica Korda.
Kang led deep into the second round during the final at Charlotte Country Club. But she conceded the lead when she ran into bunker trouble on the 30th hole. Korda took the lead for the first time when her third shot reached within a foot and Kang’s fourth shot stuck in the rough.

After 3 disappointing seasons, Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett ready to finally contribute
Dwayne Jarrett laughed Sunday when told he’s the same age as Carolina rookie teammate Brandon LaFell, fully aware of the implications.
At 23, LaFell is considered the future of the Panthers’ receivers. At 23, the bust label is gaining steam for Jarrett after three ineffective seasons that have produced as many arrests as touchdown catches.
Only Jarrett on Sunday looked and sounded like a different person. He talked of how he’s finally matured, slimmed down, got fit, is comfortable with the …

Kevin Harvick passed Denny Hamlin with 11 laps to go Sunday, then held on to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup series race at Michigan International Speedway.
Harvick’s No. 29 team gambled by staying on the track instead of making a pit stop during a late caution. It paid off with a momentum-building victory for the series points leader. This was Harvick’s third win of the season and his first this year on a nonrestrictor plate track.

Ravens score early in 17-12 win over Panthers Joe Flacco guided Baltimore’s retooled offense to a pair of scores, and the Ravens defense held Carolina without a touchdown in a 17-12 preseason victory Thursday night.
Flacco went 8 for 12 for 120 yards and a touchdown. He produced a field goal in his first series, then went three-and-out before directing a 96-yard drive that ended with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Mark Clayton.

The first year had the typical bumps of a coaching transition. The second ended with a bowl loss that secured a losing season. The third was an injury-riddled mess.
Coach Tom O’Brien knows this season at North Carolina State had better offer something more.
“You have to win. That shows progress,” he said. “That’s what we haven’t been able to do. … We’ve got to go on and have a winning season and go to a bowl game.”

Paul Menard is taking his father’s sponsorship money to Richard Childress Racing next season, giving that organization the financial security it needs to expand to the NASCAR-mandated maximum of four cars.
“When this opportunity to join RCR came about, it was a no-brainer,” Menard said Wednesday.
RCR ran four cars last season, but let Casey Mears go at the end of the year when it failed to secure financing to keep that team running. As a four-car team, RCR struggled on the track and failed to put a single car in the …
